D/L: KC’s Z-Sonic Featured On “Moombahdeep Vol. 2″

Locally-based DJ, vinyl enthusiast, MC and producer, Z-Sonic, recently saw one of his latest moombahton songs, “I Need You Close”, catch a tracklist slot on the Ginger Shinobi-presented, Moombahdeep Vol. 2. If you remember, Z-Sonic also grabbed some light from one of his tracks featured on Moombahdeep Vol. 1 as well (RIGHT HERE). As any budding (no pun intended) producer should, his own original productions keep improving. The seven-minute deep “I Need You Close” offers a glimpse to what we hope should be some increasingly gleaming tracks from him in the coming weeks, months and beyond.

Between Hy-Tekk Productions, Lotus Camp, Think 2Wice and the independent drawing power of KC house music legend, Pat Nice, we’ve got three super solid options for you to break a leg to this Saturday in Westport. The Union, Gusto Lounge and the Riot Room are partaking in what might as well be a mini club crawl, though we’re not sure if all parties intended for it. Take your sweat with you from bar to bar (they’re all within ~~walking~~ dancing distance of each other).

The dapper rapper is back with a new album for Tuesday, March 27th, Synesthesia. After skimming through it a bit, this new bandcamper sounds like it’s toying with various tempos and styles (as you should expect). From house-tinged attempts to more traditional hip hop on display here, Phantom keeps on pulling rabbits out of his hat. Features include KJ, JL of BHOOD, Hermon Mehari, Reggie B, Kirin Arnold, Leigh Gibbs and an interlude from Hot 103′s Brooklyn Martino.

I thought it was pretty wild the last time I saw Joc Max spin with Pat Nice at the Hangout on Broadway back in maybe 2006. A pair of KC legends in their respective genre fields under one building had me wondering if Joc was into house, and if Pat was into hip hop. It became clear to me that Pat does listen to some healthy hip hop after knowing him for a while longer, but until today I was not aware that Joc was into house enough to do an “all house” set. It’s going down tonight at Gusto Lounge in Westport KCMO with Joc Max and DJ Maxx spinning what I suspect to be some funkdafied, soulful, powerful music.

Sonali Aggarwal, DJ Slugo and Subterranean Playhouse (among others), recently put this nearly hour-long documentary out on vimeo for the world to see that this hyper-bass juke music is not the latest music craze coming out of the UK. (If you actually assumed that to be true, EAT IT). The video essentially interviews a gang of Chicago house/ghetto/juke icons speaking on Chicago and dance music, with a specific angle on juke, culminating in a truly inspirational piece on the sound’s history and where it can go.
