Kansas City-based film producer, photographer and Demencha contributor, Diallo Javonne French, just released a brand new documentary through vimeo titled Kansas City Dreamin’: Music In Shadows. Javonne has photographed various musicians for Demencha Magazine over the past few years, but his collection of usually black and white visual documentation converging on the Kansas City music scene’s past and present is deep. In his latest film, which you can watch at the embedded player below, Kansas City jazz living legend, Bobby Watson offers some historical context to Kansas City’s jazz legacy, and highlights newer jazz artists flourishing in Kansas City more currently. The most important thing I took away from watching Diallo’s flick merely reaffirmed my suspicion that in 2016, Kansas City is one of the very few cities where you can experience live jazz performances every day of the week, usually without paying a cover charge.
Diallo has photographed the likes of Janelle Monae, CES Cru, Eddie Moore, Tech N9ne and more for Demencha.
