Well it says that in the US "Anti-folk was begun by artists unable to gain gigs at established folk venues in Greenwich Village" To me it is Folk mixed with Punk. The actual term "Anti-Folk" can totally throw people off, because saying it's "anti" makes you think it's going to be the polar opposite of Folk.

Yeah, Regina Spektor is no one I would consider as Anti-Folk. But I do agree with your comment calling it "ironic folk".

Wikipedia is written by random people.. so who really even knows about the Laura Marling thing.

I guess I don't understand the "Anti" part. I've heard of several of the artists you mention, but never the term "Anti-Folk." It sounds like regular folk to me, yes a little lo-fi or off the cuff, but still firmly entrenched in the styles of traditional folk music. Also, the Last FM link you posted has Regina Spektor listed as anti-folk which really confuses me. The wiki article on the topic is somewhat enlightening, but it makes it sound like nothing more than slightly ironic folk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-folk). Wiki lists Laura Marling to the genre, but then back pedals and says she really isn't. I don't see much connection between her and this style.

Thanks for checking us out Michael! I've been enjoying the podcasts and the Mailbox in general. I've also enjoyed Chris's contributions. We're definitely looking forward to Middle of the Map. Last year was great. Adding an extra day should make it even more exciting. KC has a great local scene that Demencha and myself have been proud to be a part of for many years. I can still remember seeing bands like The Anniversary and Shiner when I was a teenager.

Cheers for the very kind words about "a little show with a big goal"; I appreciate everything that anyone does to support and promote the KC/Lawrence music scene, and am happy to be one of many doing just that. I have to give a great deal of credit to my partner in crime Chris Haghirian from Ink Magazine, who has become my co-host and is responsible for the concert calendars that you mention - and who is the driving force behind such events as the upcoming Middle of the Map Festival, which you'll be hearing a lot about in the coming weeks.

Please feel free to check out the webcast, give it a retweet, and follow The Mailbox on Facebook and/or Twitter for news and updates about future content ... and get out there and see a show, and let the musicians know you appreciate what they do. We've got a pretty kickass music community here. Let's keep it not only healthy, but thriving!
