Demencha biography, by Chris Mills:
I started Demencha, a small, independent, underground music magazine in 2004. With the help of a friend, I started Demencha.com in 2005. I wrote for various online zines/print newspapers in the Kansas City area while doing all this, until I strictly dedicated myself to Demencha in February 2008. The new and improved Demencha effort was underway, this time with an ever-growing crew of artists, graphic designers, writers, photographers and like-minded individuals who wanted to see a local music magazine exist, one they could get into. Our first issue came out in July of 2008, and we’ve been releasing quarterly since then, while keeping traffic on the blog on a very steady increase. We hope you enjoy the print magazine and the website, and we’re always looking for feedback, contributors and advertisers. If you are interested in any of these things, feel free to drop us a line at demenchamag@hotmail.com
Here’s a small taste of what people are saying about Demencha Magazine & Demencha.com
1. “…an awesome TKC TIPSTER.” – tonyskansascity.com administrator about demencha.com
2. “Demencha is one of the few alternatives to Big Business media posing as local coverage in this town. Chris is doing a wonderful job building up Demencha and his hard work is recognized by those in the music community who can tell when someone means what they are doing. I look forward to seeing Demencha continue to grow.” – Miles Bonny, Promoter/DJ/Vocalist/Producer
3. “Keeping up on Killa City with Demencha Magazine…” – Kansas City hip hop artist, Steddy P, from the song “Sublime”
4. “Demencha will support only local talent that has gone above and beyond.” – Bobby Foley aka Edenflux via e-mail (12-14-09)
5. “Demencha Magazine recently did a feature on me and an old painting partner of mine. Just in the past couple of weeks I have had numerous people approach me in different venues and mention reading the story. The thing that surprised me the most was how versatile the different types of readers that brought it to my attention. What it showed me was that Demencha reached out to more that what I even thought its focus group might be and how hard the people work to personally bring it even one magazine at a time to the people in Kansas City. – D.Ross “Scribe” via e-mail (12-15-09) www.scribeswalk.com
6. “As not only a reader, advertiser, but also a promoter I can only rave about Demencha Magazine. The underground feel of its content and voice, mixed with the professional quality that produced is an amazing mix. It’s truly a joy for people to read. I can’t wait til it comes out every month!” – Peter D. Rabbit, VJ/Promoter/Event Coordinator via e-mail (12-15-09)
