Former Demencha cover dude, Murderbot, is doing a kind of online fundraiser type of thing to promote his new album and Chicago dance music in general. There’s a very brief but informative part in this video about Chicago Juke music, which some of you might find interesting. Either way, look out for Chris’ next full length, hopefully sooner rather than later. I absolutely loved his last self-titled CD, and I still have an unopened copy sitting on my dining room table. Please do what you can to support his movement.
I recently came across a disco house production group called Swivel Hips, while searching for new music on the web a couple of weeks ago. They’ve been cosigned by the likes of Armand Van Helden, MSTRKRFT and Louis La Roche among others, and have been making some noise over the past year or so. I really, really dig this style of house. So much so that I decided to make a mini mix, mostly dedicated to some of my favorite Swivel Hips tracks I’ve snatched up over the past couple of weeks or so. Enjoy!
tracklisting:
1. Dwele – The Truth (Swivel Hips Afterparty)
2. Private – Secret Lover (Lifelike Remix)
3. Swivel Hips – Cheaters (Bonus Track)
4. Swivel Hips – Casual Encounters
5. Swivel Hips – Party Time
6. Swivel Hips – Green Slippers
7. Swivel Hips – Don’t Break It
I kinda think it’s not fair that they’re allowed to have one guy playing a beat, and one guy scratching. But I do think that these guys have gotten a shit ton better at DJing and producing beats since I started following them in ‘05 or ‘06 at the Peanut downtown. Congrats dudes!
The Barbaric Merits homies consist of two KC locals, DJ Mythik and Dublow 7. While holding down the predominant DJ roles in the local hip hop crew, Soul Providers, they’ve hit us with a brand new mix for the two-zero-one-zero. Featured on this mix are tracks from the likes of Joker & Ginz, DR+ and even their own remixes culminating in a gluttonous proportion of bass. My favorite joint on here is probably their own – “Rockin’ You Eternally.” We’re not exactly sure what these guys have got up their sleeves for the rest of the year and beyond, but we will be watching closely.
P.S.
I have to urge everyone to get on board with Dublow’s new website – kcmusicscene.com – which I think will eradicate other local music message boards in due time.
