While there’s not an official name for this hip hop show going down on Wednesday, October 24, and even though the holiday isn’t officially observed until next month, we at Demencha are going to call this show “Veterans Day”. Aside from the fact that one of the first albums from The Popper’s group, Veteran Click, was titled “Veterans Day” (way back in ’97), we feel as though it makes sense to title the event ourselves as you’d be hard pressed to find any rookie rap talent at this show.

While we’re not entirely familiar with every name on the bill, there will be some people performing at this event who you should get excited about. Top-City’s Str8jakkett, of the ground-breaking Kansas hip hop crew, DVS Minds, is scheduled to perform. Equally revolutionary rap artist, The Popper, will be there. Mr. Luna and S.G. of the old Empire group are apparently working on new music as well and will hopefully do both new and old tracks live. Joe Vertigo of KCK, though currently living in LA, should have a decent chunk of time to perform, we’d like to think. (Here’s an amazing hip hop beat that Vertigo did a few years back, though we’re not sure what ultimately happened with it).

In short, this will be a gathering of some of the KC area’s rap/hip hop vets who’ve done nothing but lay the foundation for what seemingly thousands of young bucks are trying to do right now within our city. This event will unfold as a rare treat for area hip hop heads, and serve as a new beginning for some rap careers. Old dogs can in fact learn new tricks and evolve. Expect another chapter to be documented in Kansas City’s hip hop history books on October 24th at Czar (15th & Grand), for $8 at the door.
