According to a press release, bubbling local rap/hip hop imprint, Distant Dreams Music, are reported to release a label compilation soon called “Unity is Key”. The first single off the comp is “2nd Hand”, produced by one of KC’s most coveted hip hop producers, TheGhost816 (pictured above). Featured verses from Jay-Rel, B’A, Jordan Taylor and Gee Watts complimented by some vital background vocals from crooner, Dre Harmony, add up to a compilation teaser that might make your tummy growl in anticipation for more music from these young bucks out of KC. Personally, I can’t really shake comparisons I keep drawing between this smoky sound and that of Schoolboy Q’s. Not that anyone necessarily slouched on their verses, but the chorus and instrumental on this joint are what will really grab you and pull you in. “2nd Hand” is probably the most enjoyable track we’ve heard out of the Distant Dreams crew to this point, and is definitely an example of some dudes really starting to come into their own as artists.
