Post-rock peaked in popularity several years ago, when every nerd staring down at their shoes wanted to be taken seriously for playing instrumental music (Note: I was one of those nerds). Even though the genre doesn’t have the fire or hipster quotient behind it that it once did, the more serious artists still continue to tour and release new material. Bands like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, the reformed Godspeed You Black Emperor!!! and MONO have solidified their audience outside of any trend. MONO are the Japanese entry into the field and have been at it for over a decade now (minus a short hiatus). They’ll make the trip to KC on September 26th at the Riot Room. If you like droney but melodic shoegaze or are currently just obsessed with asian people, this is your time to shine.
