Blowfly @ The recordBar on Tuesday

Hip-hop pioneer and all-around dirty old man Blowfly is coming to Kansas City. First off, I have to say to any punk rockers, especially DJs, that you’ll be very interested in his Alternative Tentacles album, Blowfly’s Punk Rock Party, in which he covers punk classics and changes pretty much all the lyrics to be about sex. It’s so necessary.

Anyway, back to the point, this dude’s been around for a long time. His biggest solo hit under his real name, Clarence Reid, was probably “Nobody But You Babe.” He’s made a bigger splash in the pop charts writing songs for some pretty big names, including one of my all-time favorites, Clean Up Woman. However, his solo career’s put him pretty well underground the whole time, considering how bawdy his lyrics tend to be. He put out one of the first hip-hop recordings ever in “Rapp Dirty” in 1971 and continues to rap pretty goddamn dirty to this day. You also might have seen Nardwuar’s interview with Kansas City celebrity Tech N9ne where Blowfly has a special message for Tecca Nina. If you’re interested in his life in the music industry, check out last year’s documentary The Weird World of Blowfly.

To the specifics: this show is 18 & up, $10.00 (according to the online pre-sale at least), doors open at 9:00 PM, and I have no idea who’s opening.
