Zack Smith… round out the DJ aliases that make up the 417 Mix Collection. Based out of Springfield, Missouri, the 417 Mix Collection is an offshoot of 417Vibe.com, I believe, which mainly served as a message forum for DJ/electronic music heads located in Springfield, Kansas City, St. Louis and the greater Midwest in general. If you’re constantly on the lookout for new/old house and techno DJ mixes to get me through the week like I am, the 417 Mix Collection archive is stacked with enough throbbing beats to bounce that rump shaker…er, at least keep you going at your desk sans any nasty energy drinks. All of the mixes seem to be extremely well organized. Right now I’m thumping this Pat Nice mix recorded live at Deep Fix way back in December of 2003. With Serato and Traktor remaining just a mere dream in the minds of DJ’s around the world when many of these mixes were created, it’s quite refreshing to wonder of the vinyl (and CDs) that were amassed by this slew of selectors. In an age where the right flavor-of-the-month trap mix done on Ableton can get you some plays and views, let the 417 Mix Collection do its diligence as a reminder to the elder DJs and as a lesson for the younger generation of DJs and EDM enthusiasts out there. Now get to listening.
