Sunday Showcase #9

The artist formerly known as the Saturday Showcase shall now and henceforth be known as the Sunday Showcase. Don’t bother yourself with the detail as to why such a change has taken place, just trust that it’s for the best and check out the best music of the week.

Little Dragon – “Sunshine”

Don’t be fooled by the fact that this is an ad for Absolute Punch, which is apparently a multi-dimensional cocktail experience, not just a shitty citrus vodka thing. Because Little Dragon is not a shitty citrus vodka thing. Little Dragon is the artist that provided the vocals for SBTRKT’s “Wildfire”, and a damn good band to boot. This ad came on as I was walking by the television and I watched the whole thing pants-less and jaw dropped. I suppose it wasn’t necessary that you know I was pants-less, but I wanted you to get the whole image. Watch the video. It does not disappoint.

Azealia Banks ft. Styles P – “Nathan”

Azealia seems to have reserved herself a spot en every weeks showcase. Trust me, it’s not favoritism, it’s just that she’s clearly making some of the hottest music out there right now. Listening to “Nathan” there is no way you can deny her talent, flow, and straight up magnetism.

Wye Oak – “Spiral”

I’ve been hooked on Wye Oak since they played the Uptown last earlier this year, and you should be too. They’re the latest participants in Adult Swim’s Singles series and the song will be available for download starting Monday. Their past work has been a deep sounding combo of heavy guitar riffs and weighted drums, but “Spiral” feels lighter, more ethereal, but still has the rhythmic base that we’ve come to expect from the Baltimore duo.

Lupe Fiasco – “Bitch Bad”

I know I’m not the only person excited that Lupe seems to finally be putting Lasers behind him. I like Lupe for a plethora of reasons, but his pop crossover skills are not one of them. Everybody knows Lupe hated Lasers, but contractual obligations forced him into making a shitty album. Fear not, he’s back at his lyrical best with “Bitch Bad”

Nas – “The Don” (Massive Attack Remix)

Speaking of lyrical bests, Nas is doing it big again. Brittish trip-hoppers Massive Attack got a hold of one of his latest efforts and gave it the old treatment. The result is strong, bass heavy, and Nas still rips the track apart- as he is wont to do.

Dirty Projectors – “Offspring Are Blank” and “The Socialites”

The Dirty Projectors are one of the more innovative groups around today, and have an extremely unique sound. Straight from vocals all the way to instrumentation, nobody is creating a soundscape quite like theirs. Check out two new tracks in anticipation of their upcoming release at Fake Walls

Lana Del Rey – “National Anthem”

Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky with a play on some American history. I guess.

Childish Gambino ft. Steve G Lover III – “One Up”

Childish Gambino is Donald Glover, and Steve G Lover III is Donald Glover’s brother. Listen to Donald Glover and Donald Glover’s brother “One Up” each other. Ok, I’ll stop. But seriously, listen to the track via Pigeons and Planes.

Wildcat! Wildcat! – “The Chief”

Yessir. Wildact! Wildcat! with another fresh as hell single. So laid back, so chilltastic, so wonderful. They’ve got a real knack for finding a groove with those nifty synthesizers they’ve got. I could listen to this track a gagillion times and get warm fuzzes every time.

Kids These Days – “Flashing Lights”

You’re probably thinking “this track was on here last week. is this guy losing it?” Well no. I’m not losing it. Because this is the video for that track. So stop thinking and just watch the video.
