Some things are better appreciated when they’re absent. The same could be said in the case of a couple of sabbaticals from the spotlight by r&b legend and Grammy Award winner, D’angelo. The past 10-12 years or so for D’angelo haven’t exactly been his most active as a performer and musician. In the midst of rumors dashing around as to his whereabouts, his personal life and his future music releases, D’angelo popped back up on a small European tour back in November of 2011, to the delight of fans around the world (SEE VIDEOS HERE). Since then, he’s done an interview with GQ and his comeback looks to be just about in full swing. While it may be quite some time before we get D’angelo confirmed for a tour date in Kansas City (fingers crossed!), Kansas City’s Lee Langston and crew are challenging the songbook of D’angelo this Saturday at the Record Bar in Westport. You may remember the Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill tribute events they’ve done in months past. Langston, Anthony Saunders, Mike James, Kevin “Churchboi” Johnson (former Demencha cover dude) and Dante “Darc” Combs will be collaborating, paying homage to the old D’angelo, and surely looking forward to the new D’angelo. If you’re into soul music in the least bit, you’ll want to make it a point to be at Record Bar on Saturday night.
