Early this morning, we drove from Montrose, Colorado to Colorado Springs. The view wasn’t quite as spectacular as yesterday’s drive. And as a matter of fact, it was all I could do to keep from passing out in the passenger seat while Charles drove. When we hit Colorado Springs at about 1 p.m., our initial destination was to drive all the way up Pike’s Peak (14,000+ feet high). Unfortunately, the snow was so bad up towards the top of the peak that we could only go 12 miles, instead of the full 19. We said, screw it, and headed over to Seven Falls, which is basically a pretty nice waterfall in the Cheyenne Canyon, not too far from Pike’s. It was a great way to mellow down at the end of a vacation, and we had the best weather today that we’ve had over the past 7 days since we’ve been gone. Here are some additional pictures and video:

I even got to go record digging today at Independent Records here in Colorado Springs. After that, we went to a Cricket store so I could get a new cell phone charger. I left mine in our hotel in Durango a couple of nights ago. That’s about it really. Charles and I talked about family stuff for a while after dinner. I never knew that my mom used to be a pretty skilled accordion player. We saw the sunset over Pike’s Peak from our hotel as our conversation continued. The sun would also set on our road trip, metaphorically, as well. We are coming home tomorrow. The drive to the Colorado/Kansas state line will be pretty flat, according to Charles, but a lot can still happen in the (roughly) 700 miles that we have to drive to get back home. I just hope my apartment is ok, and that not all the lights have burned out. This trip was crazy. Throughout the whole vacation, I felt as though I was in a movie…like part Beavis and Butthead Do America and part Jurassic Park. I feel recharged about the Demencha Magazine project, but I can’t wait to get back on the road again soon with some homies.

Signing off from Colorado Springs

My dearest nephew…your pictures take my breath away. I loved the writings about each days adventures. This brought back memories of traveling with Uncle Chuck. I am so happy you have been able to share this with Uncle Charles. Your mother played the accordian but “accomplished”? mmmmm
