Royce Diamond’s new album, Aficionado, finally saw the light of day earlier this morning, after he released the Between Time and Aficionado Sampler CDs over the course of the past several months. I just got done listening to this and I can definitely say that none of the songs on this record sound alike. This dude has a pretty keen knack for flipping vocal samples as you’ll hear when you listen to this (all the beats and lyrics are performed by himself with no guest appearances). He has a show coming up soon at the Jackpot in Lawrence with Reach, Smoov Confusion and Steddy P. I’ll hopefully have the flier up here on Demencha at least a week in advance.

Just got an e-mail from Chrissy Murderbot up in Chicago. While remaining one of the dopest DJs to ever walk KC, in my mind, he moved to Chicago about a year or two ago to pursue his label – Sleazetone. Chris is doing big, big things in Chicago, including a recent gig in which he opened up for DJ Slugo and Egyptrixx. His self-titled album will see a release date sometime in September, we’re told, and here’s one of the heaters off that record, featuring…Miles Bonny…over jungle(?) I originally heard this song on the INnatesounds Crew 2009 Sampler (which is amazing, in itself) but didn’t make the connection that Miles was working with Murderbot until I got this new Murderbot album in my e-mail inbox, which contains the same song.

I met Young Boss, along with a slew of other figures in KC’s rap scene, at the Taste of Troost Fest at 7th Heaven on the Fourth of July. He gave me one of his CDs, executive produced by “The 55th Street Legend” – Black Walt, called The Groovy Movement. It was probably the best CD I’d picked up all day at the event, and that’s saying something. One song on the record that caught my immediate attention was “Slowly.” The verses, particularly the freaky tales told by Infinity, make for a track that ditches romanctic themes for, um…a much more wild and provocative thesis. Memorable hook? Check. Fly ass beat knocked out of the park by up-and-coming producer, Church Boy? Check. DJs and local rap/hip hop supporters should download this and tell a friend. Oh yea, the CD that this song appaears on, The Groovy Movement, will get nationwide distribution through 101 Distibution on September 3rd!!

Qui Lo was a local hip hop group in the mid-late 90’s consisting of Godemis (currently of Ces Cru), Joe Good (who back then went by “Dr. Who”), and Big Frame (currently of Tru Spittaz Click). The three of them recorded this album, “The Enemy,” but never officially released it, when they were all about 18-19 years old, from what I’m told by Frame.

It’s been a long time coming for me to finally post this album (zipped up below). Frame gave me the CD after I talked to him at James Christos’ video shoot last summer at 7th Heaven, after I bugged him enough about it. Apparently, he had all the tracks sitting on his hard drive for a looooooong time.

Dr. Who actually produced most, if not all the tracks on this record. Godemis’ “out-rap-a-muthafucka” style was in it’s infancy and Frame too, was just getting his feet wet with recording hip hop music. But where are they now? Godemis remains one of the nicest MCs in the city. Frame has turned out to be one of the better hip hop producers in town. However, if you find Joe Good’s facebook page and look at his pictures, it’s apparent that he’s currently in family-man mode.

This is a piece of local hip hop history. And I hope that you guys and gals enjoy this. This isn’t by any means a great record, but it’s definitely fun to listen through and have as a keepsake on your hard drive.

***I would like to forwarn everyone downloading this zip file, that the tracks will not appear in order in your winrar, winzip windows or whatever. I suggest making a new folder on your desktop just for these songs, and organize them by “Track 1,” “Track 2,” so on and so forth, by clicking and dragging.***
