That’s right folks. Just got the word today from the umove people that Kid Cudi, Asher Roth, B.O.B. and Pacific Division will be performing LIVE at the Voodoo Lounge in Harrah’s Casino on Monday, July 20th (!). Not really a fan of Asher Roth, I know a little about B.O.B. and Pacific Division, but Kid Cudi is the reason I’ll be making my first trip up to Voodoo. Doors open at 6:30. 18 AND UP!!! Presales start around $26.00. I’d imagine it would be $35 or $40 at the door on the night of the event.

This is a good time for Cudi to come through to KC because Hot 103 Jamz has his hit single “Day n Nite” on their monday through friday night “Hot 8 at 8″ show.

See you there!

I told myself back in 2005 that if I didn’t have a decent mix to go by after three years of spinning records that I would quit. Now, it’s been almost four years. The delay has been due to the fact that I haven’t been able to get my hands on a recording program to record my DJ mixes. That changed about a week ago when a friend hooked me up with recording capabilities, finally. To him, I’m grateful, because this is when the DJing thing gets kinda fun in a way.

By “decent,” I mean that the beats are matched. And when they’re not, I recovered from them. I still need to work on phrasing, particularly with house music (I’m better at phrasing with hip hop). I would also like to note that this mix was recorded with ALL VINYL records. That’s a whole other story in itself. Without going into too much detail, when my friend hooked me up with a recording program a few days ago, I couldn’t get the program to record while I was mixing in Serato. I think it’s an issue with my computer not having the minimum requirements to allow both programs to run at the same time. Anyhoo… that’s why I did this with all vinyl.

Yea. I think I have something relatively decent to go by for my first recorded mix. God knows I’ve been critical of other DJs in the past (lol), so by all means – LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!! But at the same time, I’ve listened to a shit ton of local music through my work with the magazine, so PLEASE – give this a listen, return the favor, and let me know what you think of it.

Chris Mills – Summer Frolicking Mix
Duration: 36:12
DOWNLOAD HERE: http://www.divshare.com/download/7482145-220

Tracklisting:
1. Janet Jackson – “Got ‘Til It’s Gone” feat. Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell (Nellee Hooper Master Mix)

I don’t know why I’ve got so much Janet on this mix. I think I’ve come to the realization that she’s probably my fav 90’s pop/r&b artist.

2. Pete Rock feat. Carl McIntosh and Jane Eugene formerly of Loose Ends – “Take Your Time”

This is my favorite Pete Rock song, hands down.

3. SWV – “Right Here/Human Nature” (Human Nature Radio Mix)

More 90’s r&b.

4. Mary J Blige – “Real Love”

Even more 90’s r&b.

5. Timbaland and Magoo feat Devante Swing – “Can U Get Wit It” (Remix)

This is another track that I downloaded back in the Napster days and couldn’t find it anywhere else. Until my eyes bout popped out of my head when I saw this 12 inch at Zebedee’s Records on 39th Street.

6. Montel Jordan – “Somethin’ 4 Da Honeyz”

This one, though it does go in on summer themes, is more for comedic relief. A family friend of mine who I grew up with loves this song, so I had to throw this one on here and hopefully he’ll dig it when I burn him a copy of this mix.

7. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince – “Summertime” (Extended Club Mix)

This might be my favorite song of all time. I’m not even joking. The reason I couldn’t put the OG in it’s place is because it’s scratched.

8. Snoop Doggy Dogg – “Ain’t No Fun”

It’s all about the summer frolicking!

9. Naughty By Nature – “Hip Hop Hooray” (Sunship Groove Mix)

Nice remix of an NBN classic!

10. Kriss Kross – “Warm It Up”

I remember jamming out to this as a kid in school. Other kids would tell me to “Warm It Up Chris!” just like the song says.

11. Janet Jackson – “Go Deep” (Jam and Lewis Extended Album Mix)

Another favorite from Janet’s catologue.

12. Positive K – “I Got A Man”

One of the top rap songs that “white people like.”

13. Too Short – “My Dick, My Sack”

Summer frolicking. Nuff Said. Don’t sleep on this one. It’s Short Dog’s take on Khia’s classic dirty rap “My Neck My Back.” If you’re familiar with Khia’s version, this one will crack your shit up!!!

I first downloaded this song like 10 years ago on Napster. Since, many of my old mp3 discs that I burned from the Napster days are unreadable by CD/mp3 players and even my laptop. Hence, I lost it. But just a couple of hours ago, I rediscovered it on goodmusicbox.blogspot.com. HUGE shout out to whoever the hell runs that site.

I now present to you, in all it’s glory…
