This picture portraying Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Zack Greinke, may leave you scratching your head, wondering “Did he do something wrong?” Yes he’s done some pretty wrong things to opposing hitters. (Here’s him slaying Alex Rodriguez last season at Yankee’s stadium in 5 pitches):
…but the “I didn’t do it” look is constantly cast over his face when doing post-game interviews, as is his boyish manner and unsure voice. He’s still just 26 years old, and dealt with a battle with depression a couple of years ago that made local sports headlines. Yes, we at Demencha feel for Zack Greinke.
But so far through the ’09 season, Zack Greinke is the best pitcher in baseball, hands down. I’ve been following the Royals consistently thus far in 2009, and for the better part of my life, and after his last game, he set a mark of 43 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, dating back to last season. To kick off the new baseball season, he’s 4-0 with 36 strikeouts. As another sports talk radio guy said a couple nights ago – “…His stuff is filthy…he needs to take a bath.” Since the beginning of the season, he’s allowed only 6 walks and 19 hits.
While listening to local sports talk radio while trying to take a nap today, I overheard the host say that Greinke will be on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 3 days. Support your local sports teams! GO PICK THAT SHIT UP.
The new issue of SI with GREINKE ON THE COVER is set to hit newstands in three days (subscribers could get it on a different day) and that is the day that Greinke is supposed to take the hill for his fifth start of the season. If his next start goes as well as his last 6, he will set the record for consecutive starts without giving up an earned run.
