music video: DJ PRATO (KC) HAS HIS TRACK NAMED #1 BREAKS TUNE FOR DECEMBER ISSUE OF MIXMAG!!!

Kansas City breaks DJ, DJ Prato, of No Handed Music and the NSB radio show “Frosted Breaks,” has recently had his tune “Hotterdam” (Mr. No Hands Edit) named the number one breaks tune for the month of December by MIXMAG. This is kind of a big deal. But we’ll let Prato tell the rest:

“I’m thrilled to have my song selected as Mixmag’s Breaks tune for December. Things have really heated up this year production-wise. My first release, a remix for Systematica records, dropped the day after Christmas last year so it’s a trip to see a tune of the month honor a year later. I’ve been a sort of evangelist for the proper breaks sound with my NSB Radio show, Frosted Breaks. It’s great to be able to contribute to the scene.”

“I also can’t give enough props to what Mr No Hands is doing with his label. No Handed Music is so innovative with how they use video with every release. I’ve done two videos for my releases, which was almost harder than doing the tracks, and Dave No Hands has done nearly all the rest. The label has done a video for each of the releases this year. That’s 12 vids! Releasing a tune a month in one year is unheard of for any label, doing a video as well is amazing.”

It’s great to hear breaks that don’t sound like the kind of stuff that we tend to get on KKFI and KRBZ (no disrespect to either station). Even the cheesy stuff has it’s place, and obviously it’s keeping ratings up at KRBZ on Saturday nights, but Prato’s tunes go hard. I remember the first and only time I saw him spin with RJ Bass at the Hangout in KC back in ’06, I was blown away at the tracks they were playing. I could be wrong but I would say there’s a decent Chemical Brothers influence in his music.
