So this one might not be such a “classic,” but it’s one of my favorites.
They’ve got a lot more than this, but these are some favorites.

Tonight in Lawrence, Diplo and the Mad Decent army will be stopping through at the Grenada on Mass. Street. This will be my third time seeing Diplo. The last time was in Lawrence at the Grenada, to a much smaller crowd than what should have showed up. However, I predict that tonight will probably sell out. And that’s because of his extensive line of work that has only grown since ‘05. So I could understand if you were sleeping on this event in ‘06, but not today. The first time I saw him was in Cincinatti in 2005 for the Scribble Jam opening night warehouse party. Little did I know that it would be the best DJ set I’ve ever seen, still to this day. At the time, I was still in my indie-hip hop phase, but I was ape shit for Diplo’s Florida album, which was largely instrumental stuff. I was also dabbling in baile funk, which Diplo helped bring to the American dance floors. I remember at that party a lot of the Kansas City people left early because they thought he was going to play true-school hip hop stuff, but he didn’t. Needless to say, I stuck around and witnessed the best DJ set of my entire life. I got back from Cincy and I told Ben Fuller about the show and he said that from what he’d heard indicated that it was a “legendary show.” Then they told me about the hollerboard, which was supposed to be a secret back then. This party revolutionized my tastes in music. There’s no other way around it.
I hope to see some of those KC heads faces tonight in Lawrence. Because after all…it is bigger than hip hop.
Here’s a picture that I took at that party in Cincy:

We got a new remix from our good friend Kiko De Gallo (big time fan of Demench Magazine!) a few days ago in our e-mail inbox. I think it’s meant to make more of a statement about our the current state of our economy rather than rock a party. Here’s what Kiko had to say about it:
“A folk track from my friend PLENUM in Chicago remixed to make you shake and jump! It is kind of funny that Plenum wrote this track months before the current economic situation that he talks about in the track. I’m pretty glad that I had the chance to remix it, as well as, being authorized to share it with friends.”

So McCain is speaking today at the Heartland Church in Belton, Missouri. I live in Raymore, which is right next to Belton. I went over to Subway in Belton just now and got a sandwich (I almost always go to Belton if I’m doing things like getting a bite to eat, going to the grocery store or gas station) and I asked the three female employees behind the counter if the highway was going to be shut down or not for security for McCain’s vehicles. They said they didn’t know, but one of them said that “he (McCain) was no one special anyway.” A coversation amongst themselves about politics ensued as I went to my table to eat my sandwich.
I saw some cops posted up at weird places near the 58 Highway and 71 Highway intersect on the way back to Raymore after my sandwich. Which brings me to a point. Why didn’t they just have McCain speak somewhere in Raymore? Raymore’s residents are way more conservative than Belton’s. I guess this will finally force all the snotty Raymore people to cross the highway into the hated Belton. LOL.
In related news, I bought Young Jeezy’s new album, The Recession, a few days ago. I’m a certified Jeezy fan now. I have not been able to listen to anything else but this album since I got it. After the first of the month, I’m going to buy his entire catalogue, including the USDA stuff. I haven’t given spins to something like this since UGK’s last album. But anyway, there’s a song on the album called “My President,” featuring Nas. The whole album is relavent as fuck, but particularly this song:
