Konsept has been up to his teeth in events since relocating from KC/Lawrence to Chicago. He was gracious enough to throw a new mix our way (thanks for the original content!), which is super dope, loaded with funked up, disco-ey club stuff. You can catch Konsept (Konsept myspace) on May 8 at the NEON Dance Party which happens every Thursday night at the Bottleneck in Lawrence. I went once last year, and I really think that NEON (neon myspace) is the best dance party in KC or Lawrence, and probably has been for a while. This featured mix from him has been downloaded over 25,000 times, and you’ll see why from the very first track. The mix is only 30 minutes, so it won’t take up too much of your time.

Our good friends Jon and Andrea (pictured above) shot some pictures from Menages last Friday where the Control Freeks, Donald Glaude and DJ Dan spun records for what turned out to be a much better crowd than I expected, given that I hadn’t been there in close to two years. For those that don’t know, Menages is located at the same venue that was previously known as Club Kandi. But I gotta give props to the people at Kandi/Menages for transforming the place into something enjoyable. This is just what the KC dance scene needed this summer. I missed out on the Control Freeks set on this night, but I agree with others who were there that Donald Glaude did entirely too much scratching. Overall, it was a good time. Here’s to more fun parties at Menages in the future, where the resident Control Freeks will be opening up for a ton of headlining DJs all summer and into the Fall, pretty much every Friday from now on. This Friday is DJ Icey, who I’m not really a fan of, but I’ll go anyways because of the free ticket (and three free Beatport downloads) I got when I paid the cover at Menages last Friday…which was pretty sweet.
Below are a few choice pictures that Jon shot at Menages for CTF, Glaude and Dan last Friday, but here’s a link to Jon and Andrea’s full album on photobucket: http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p231/jonboykc/danandong/?start=all

I don’t know who Mazzi is, but this is a pretty fresh track regardless of what you think of the Cool Kids or Jay Electronica.
This video was shot last night (Monday, April 28) at Heet Mob’s Mic Check Mondays, which happens every Monday night at the Embassy Bistro on Main (right next to Harlings and the old Recycled Sounds).
The featured group in this video is one of my favorite rap groups out of KC right now, Blocfia. The guy in the see-through rain coat is Fat J, who’s on a kind of Too Short-esque, player tip. Harry Whodini, who I can’t help but compare to Lil Fame from MOP, is donning the white and red KC fitted, and Traffic, a pure lyricist, is wearing black. They all compliment each other really well as a group, and all have an unmistakable swagger and grind-core style that makes their live performances rememberable from the first time you see them. Nice to see DJ Fresh out there last night also.. Oh yea, don’t forget to check out Mic Check Mondays at the Embassy Bistro every Monday night!
