“La rent does not want me to look at porn”. Puppets, punk riffs and candid but light-hearted dialogues about sex and romance litter David Liebe Hart’s content. Hart uses puppets to confront jarring or uncomfortable parts of today’s culture; it’s a playfully lascivious storytelling approach accompanied by Screamers-esque instrumentals from the backing band. As with many puppeteers, the natural implication is that Hart’s characters are extensions of different aspects of Hart’s own personality. Harts origins in the Midwest (he hails originally from Chicago) may influence his nods to the repressed nature of this part of the country; from churches to trains to prostitutes, rest assured it’s quite applicable in terms of this region’s social undertones. He’s created art and music for Cartoon Network’s “Tim and Eric’s awesome show, Great Job!” among many other feats, and will be performing with RLT at the Riot Room in Westport KCMO this Sunday, July 10.
